Karpool is a carpool app for a small group of people who already know each other: a school run, a commute, a club. It exists so the people waiting can see whether the car is on its way. This policy describes exactly what that requires, and nothing is collected that it does not require.

Your account. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and the provider's user identifier. We use them to identify you to the other members of your carpools — a ride is only useful if people can see who is driving.
Your carpools. The carpools you create or join, your role in them, which days you are available to drive, and the schedule of who drives when.
Ride locations. While — and only while — you have started a ride, the app records your device's location every few seconds and sends it to our server. Other members of that carpool see your live distance and estimated arrival time. This is the core of the product; there is no version of it that works without it.
Ride history. The start and end time of each ride, the distance travelled, and the destination address of the carpool. Members of the same carpool can see this history; other users cannot.
Your device, for notifications. A push token and the app version, so we can tell you when someone starts driving. You can turn ride alerts off per carpool inside the app, or off entirely in your device settings.
Diagnostics. Crash information may be written to a log file on your own device. It is not uploaded.
We do not collect contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, advertising identifiers or browsing activity. We do not use advertising or analytics SDKs, we do not sell personal data, and nothing here is used for advertising or profiling.
We disclose data to law enforcement only where legally required.
Ride locations, ride history and schedules are kept while your account exists, because that history is what the carpool's fairness and statistics are built from. When you delete your account, they go. We may keep records we are legally required to keep.
In the app: Profile → Delete account. This immediately and permanently deletes your rides and their recorded locations, your carpool memberships, your scheduled drives, your device registrations, your profile and your sign-in identity. Carpools you administer are handed to another member so the group is not stranded; a carpool with nobody left in it is deleted with its history.
Records that are not yours — a drive another member now covers, a ride somebody else drove — remain, with you removed from them.
You can also request deletion by writing to privacy@vedhasagara.com from your account's email address.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. Write to privacy@vedhasagara.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Karpool accounts are for adults — the parents and drivers who organise the carpool. Children do not have accounts and we do not knowingly collect data from them. A carpool's name or notes may mention a child's first name if a member writes one; keep that in mind when naming things.
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access is enforced at the database with row-level security, so one carpool's data is not reachable by members of another. Sign-in tokens are held in the platform's encrypted storage on your device.
If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and surface the change in the app before it takes effect.
